a friend i met back in my grand rapids days is exhibiting some portraits she took while volunteering at an orphanage in ghana back in 2012. her story and photos are both incredibly moving. please take a second from your day to vote for her for exposure 2013!

how cute is this seating card idea? the buttons are all customized for each guest and they are made to be worn and used as conversation starters. i think this idea is great for several different reasons. first off, always take advantage of using any chance you can to customize the wedding for your guests. theres nothing like a note or gift that says i thought of you to say thank you to your guests. and secondly, some guests come to weddings not knowing anyone there. including conversation starters is always smart! so what would YOUR button say?

detroit mercantile (our wedding venue) appeared in a recent article from curbed.com showcasing some awesome detroit wedding venues. just got me so excited. and for those of you who have asked about it, detroit mercantile is a “general store” of sorts located in eastern market in downtown detroit. they sell new and vintage items from all over the mitten state. after months and months of searching for the right venue, we stumbled upon this one completely on accident when they hadn’t even announced that they were doing weddings yet. proof not only that everything happens for a reason but also that if you have patience, the right thing will come your way.

i think i have mentioned before that i come from a family of artists. we are all very different but we have that connected string of creativity. my dad is a commercial painter and does beautiful home renovations. my mom is a jack of all trades from drawing to photography to jewelry making. my younger brother is a musician and songwriter. and my older brother is an architect and fantastic sketch artist. he showed me this drawing a while back when it just said “public market” and i knew it was going to be something incredible. and now that its done i just have to show it off! this one is for his girlfriend, but i just know he is still working on some awesome masterpiece for me!!!! wink wink ;)

i am off to guzzle down my belgian chocolate coffee, assemble the day away and meet with a new client.

Obsessing Over: these fabulously nautical designs for one of my clients. makes me want to go out on the boat. maybe thats because its supposed to be in the 70’s ALL WEEK LONG! happy as a clam…

Working On: a plethora of projects including my very own save-the-dates. i have had several requests to post a draft of them and my response is… are you crazy?! you can see them when they are done and in your mailbox :) but i do promise to post them on here once they are done and out for delivery.

Thinking About: how excited i am to be officially cutting down hours at my second job. for those of you just tuning in, i work like a crazy person, 40 hours as a receptionist and then another probably 40-60 on peace.love.design. but cutting back is going to give me an opportunity to really expand my business and take things to the next level.

Anticipating: the big move. shouldn’t be much longer now. i know i have been saying that for weeks. but we are really really close now. i have my office wall color picked out. so.stinking.excited.

Listening To: mumford and sons of course. what else is there!?

Wishing: that my wedding dress was here already. i know when it comes i am not going to get anything done. i will just sit around in it all day with a giant grin on my face :)

introducing the newest member of the peace.love.design. family…. my new silhouette cameo! the silhouette cameo is an electronic cutting tool that can create endless shapes on paper, cardstock, fabric, vinyl, and more. i am so excited about this new addition and already have several clients booking projects to use it on. so you can look forward to lots of exciting new projects coming very soon! (including my own save the dates… its about time!)

Obsessing Over: the new coffee flavors i FINALLY ordered for my keurig. among them my two favorites, island coconut and wild blueberry. i take my coffee very seriously if you hadn’t noticed yet :)

Working On: a makeover of sorts. more to come. also, i get to go pick PAINT colors for the house today! i cannot believe we are finally painting. crazy stuff.

Thinking About: how i need about 4 more hours in each day. at least. i just don’t know how normal people build an empire, renovate a house (ehemm ryan), and work a full time “side” job all at the same time. lets just say there is not a whole lot of sleep, and there are friends and family that get mad at you for not sharing your time with them. but if you want something bad enough, you will work like crazy for it.

Anticipating: sharing all the fun projects from my spring brides. its been an incredible start to 2013 and i am just having a blast with all the designs. coming real soon folks!

Listening To: the ratatat station on pandora. i highly recommend it if you are at all a ratatat fan.

Wishing: that i could spend all day planning the wedding. or working on said “makeover”. or that i could survive on coffee alone. or that we could move into the house today. that would be thebomb.com

i guess the big question is… how do you jump back into blogging after not posting since like… what january!? thats embarrassing times ten.

and i know what you are thinking, jessica, if you had time to decoupage a candle holder, don’t you have time to write a blog post?

and there you have it, the reason i am posting. when i feel overloaded with client work, wedding planning, and researching tile for our foyer, shower, and backsplash, its nice to just take a minute and do something like decoupage a candle for fun. and not because i need to or its on today’s to-do list or because i have a deadline to do it. but just for fun. decoupaging a candle may not be on the top of your list of “things to do in my downtime” so no making fun. i know exactly where i am putting it in our new house (when its finished)

speaking of the new house… we are nearing completion! ryan has literally been a crazy man, working 8am til sometimes 10 or 11pm. EVERYDAY. i literally have to call him and let him know its bedtime. and the time he has put in is just radiating from the house. i cannot wait to share pictures of our little piece of paradise. i am so proud of him and what he has accomplished. so stay tuned for the big reveal, before and after photos, credits to all the other helping hands we have had, and im sure, many small finishing projects to follow after that. providing i ever find the tile i am looking for ;)

i also have another surprise in store for you for this week. its a new addition to the peace.love.design. family! who/what is it? i guess you will have to check back in to hear the good news ;)

now generally monday check-ins consist of details of all the multitasking i have going on that day. but this monday is different.

today marks an incredibly exciting day in mine and ryan’s life. we are closing on our very first house. we could not be more excited.

“pardon our dust” in this blog because i will undoubtedly be documenting the renovations every step of the way!
